The Ord Minnett Charity Sprint

Starts at 9.00am, just before the 1k mini
and 2k swim classic swims

Returning for 2012, a charity dash for cash will kick off the 11th Sydney Harbour Swim Classic. The Ord Minnett Charity Sprint is an invitational dash From Fort Denison to the Steps under the wings of the Opera House with prize money to be won for each charity.. The Ord Minnett Charity Sprint event is partnered with the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Black Dog Institute, Clean Up Australia, the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife Service and The Botanic Gardens Foundation raising valuable awareness and funds for these important charities. Their partnership aligns to the mission of the SHSC, promoting Sydney Harbour and its links to the wider community.

This is a unique swim. In 2009 was the first time that swimmers had been given the chance to dive off Fort Denison and swim past the Harbour Bridge, toward true icons of Sydney, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Sydney Opera House. We at the SHSC are proud to have launched this event along with our partners and the charities that will benefit from a fun day for all.

The Ord Minnett Charity Sprint is a charity swim where the winners are invited to promote their choice of charities. Past and present Olympians, celebrities and government officials will race to promote and make a donation to their preferred charity. The list of participants will be announced closer to the date of swim. Stay tuned for excitement!

The race will start with teams of 3 competitors each in an 800m sprint from Fort Denison to the Man 'O War steps under the Opera House, creating an opportunity for swim competitors and the general public to follow the race. The Star Swimmer names will be called by the on water SHSC Race Commentary Team- each ‘Star Swimmer’ will be wearing a different coloured Swim cap to enable spectators to follow the race.

In past years the Sydney Harbour Swim Classic has hosted Olympians Murray Rose, John Konrads, Graeme Brewer, Shane Gould, Carl Wilson, Matt Renshaw and regular supporter Malcolm Turnbull + Iron Man Guy Leech and other sports personalities – these guys are pretty keen for 2012!

Swim Stars who appeared in the 2011 Ord Minnett Charity Sprint include Carl Wilson, Guy Leech, Geoff Huegill, Chris Fydler, Louise Stephenson, Sue Kearney, Suanne Hunt, Michael Klim, Daniel Kowalski, John, Koorey, Matt Renshaw, Susie Maroney, Debbie Watson

Event swimmers, friends and guests will be able to watch this open water spectacle under the wings of the Sydney Opera House, the most amazing natural amphitheatre in the world.

The ORD MINNETT CHARITY SPRINT will start at 9.00am with the swimmers ferried out to Fort Denison at 8.45am
The main community races – 1km Mini and 2km Sydney Harbour Swim Classic races start from 9.30am – and as in past years Guest Celebrity Starters will join the line-up.
