Registration
Registration tables will be open from 7:00am and close at 8:30am. All swimmers will be issued with a number and official cap, which must be worn for safety reasons during the entire running of the event. Each entrant will also be fitted with a secure ankle band with individual computer chips. The ankle band must be worn at all times during the race. At the finish, entrants simply run over a special finish pad and their data is scanned and recorded with computerised tabulation of the time, number and referencing to the entrant's name.
The ankle band must be returned to a race official before leaving Man O’War steps.

All swimmers compete at their own risk. By entering onto the Man O' War Steps you acknowledge that you have read and understood the Event Rules and have completed the Event Entry Form, including the Release & Waiver, in full.
The Start
Race numbers on arm, caps and ankle chips are required to access in water start waves. Competitors will enter the Start Poisition matching the issued cap colour with their wave group.
Cut Off Times
The halfway point cut-off is 20 minutes for the 1k course and 45 minutes for the 2k course. The final time limit is 40 minutes for the 1k course and 60 minutes for the 2k course. Any swimmer not reaching the halfway or finish, within the allocated time, will be removed from the water for safety reasons.
Medical Emergencies
For medical emergencies, Lifeguarding Services Australia is located at the finish line and around the entire event. Event and lifesaving staff will be on hand at the start and on the water. Please notify an official should you require medical attention. The onus is on the swimmer to supply and make arrangements regarding special medical / health requirements while competing.
Transport and Parking
Sydney Ferries, Buses and Trains all can be used to get to Circular Quay.
The Sydney Harbour Swim Classic is within walking distance of Circular Quay on the eastern side of the Sydney Opera House.

Swimmers aged 13 - 65+ years, who have trained adequately and are of sufficient physical health to complete the swim.

Entry Deadline:
Entries must be received by 5pm on Friday the 9th of March 2012. Entries received after that date will be deemed late entries.
Late Entry:
Entries on race day will be accepted only between 7.00am to 8.30am or until the maximum number of entrants (1000) is reached. No late entries will be accepted after 8.30am.
Race Information
Official Rules
2. Safety officials have the authority to take swimmers from the water when they are deemed to have difficulty in completing the course or if they haven't reached the halfway buoy of the 1k swim in 20 minutes and the halfway buoy of the 2k swim in 45 minutes.
3. All swimmers must be unaided to be eligible to win a prize – that means:
a) no wet suits or seal suits,
b) no flippers or fins, boards, or any other floatation gear is permitted,
c) no individual escort boats,
d) surf skis or board paddlers will be allowed to accompany swimmers,
e) any person wishing to use a swim aid must first register his/her intention by contacting the race director prior to race day.
f) Blind swimmers may be escorted by a “buddy” swimmer, providing the event director has been notified prior to the swim.
g) All swimmers must swim the prescribed course,
h) All swimmers are to wear their prescribed cap, number and ankle band.
4. In order to be eligible for a prize the following rules regarding swimwear apply:
a) Swimmers must wear only conventional swimming costumes made from lycra and/or nylon and/or polyester.
b) No neoprene or other "high-tech" material that gives floatation support is allowed.
c) Male swimmers must wear only briefs or shorts with no coverage above the waist or below the knee.
d) Female swimmers must wear either one or two piece costumes with no arms or legs.
e) Lycra/Nylon/Polyster Rash Vests can be worn to protect from sun and stingers, however Neoprene or "high-tech" Rashies are not allowed.
5. All swimmers must behave in a sportsmanlike manner, and follow completely the instructions of the Race Director, Swim Marshals and Safety Personnel.
6. The decisions of the Race Director is final and protests are not permitted.
Safety and Risk Management
Board paddlers, safety personnel, rubber dinghies, Waterways patrol boats and safety divers will patrol the course for the duration of the race. Qualified personnel in emergency first aid and medical procedures will be on site. If a swimmer feels unable to proceed, they should attract the attention of water safety personnel. Swimmers enter this event at their own personal risk, they are responsible for their own physical condition, and are urged to train and have a medical check prior to entry. A swimmer deemed incapable of completing the course may be taken out of the water by safety officials at any time. Any swimmer who pulls out of the race must notify race officials immediately.
For the protection of all swimmers, water control and safety will at all times remain under the authority of Lifeguarding Services Australia.
Prizes
All entrants that finish will be awarded a certificate of participation from the Ord Minnett Sydney Harbour Swim Classic: these are handed out with your special event grab bag filled with sponsor giveaways. Prizes must be taken on the day of the swim.
Random prizes from past years have included holidays / swims in Fiji and Vanuatu, Dolphin swimming adventures in Port Stephens, Educational experiences like a day on one of the Sydney Ports vessels, swimming with the Taronga Park seals + plenty of free entry passes and tickets to walk over with a Harbour Bridge Climb plus numerous sponsor giveaways...
